This reroof in Rathdrum was a result of a leaking problem the existing roof had when we had some severe winds in late December/early January. As you can see in the picture below labeled “DURING” there is a wet spot on the roof decking. That’s where some shingles blew off in a wind storm, then rain found its way in and ruined a bunch of drywall inside. Thankfully the roof decking was still solid, so we let the wet spot dry out, then went right over it and didn’t have to replace any plywood.

This is one of the reasons we urge our customers to replace their roofs before these blow-offs occur. One bad-timed storm could cost $1000’s in repairs on the inside of your house, not including the roof work that needs to be done. Being proactive can potentially save a lot of money.

So we did a complete tear-off of 1 layer of 3-tab shingles, then put on 2 rows of ice shields to prevent ice dams, and 15# ASTM felt paper on the remaining roof. The shingle installed is GAF Natural Shadow, and the color is Charcoal. This shingle is fully warranted not to blow off no matter how hard the wind blows, which means many years of peace of mind for the homeowner.

If you have shingles blowing off or are afraid they might soon, give us a call and we’ll come out and give you a free roof consultation and let you know what needs to be done. We are a Post Falls roofing company ready to answer your questions and help you with all your rooftop needs.
